As we gear up for the 2014 race season our riders have been preparing as best they can. Racer, Al Bennetto had the opportunity to travel to South Carolina with his family as a part of the Coach Chris spring training camp. Those of us stuck back in Ontario were very envious of his opportunity for long rides and sunshine!
Here is the report of his travels:
Although this years' weather was a bit cooler than previous years at Table Rock S.C., we managed to only have one day of rain and I must admit, it was a lot warmer than Ontario. The first three days the high reached 24 degrees on average, the last three days the high reached 15 degrees on average.
Our B Group, which was lead by Paul Choquette managed to compile close to 500 k.m, 17 hrs and close to 8000 meters of climbing. We tackled Caesars Head twice, one was a time trail and the other turned into a time trail, well at least between some of us riders ;) We also did two rides through the Sassafras Mountains (the highest point in South Carolina). On our ride to Furman University we ended up riding beside George Hincapie and his BMC Devo team.
My Son Holden and I share a love for Football and were able to get once in a life time opportunity while at training camp. We took a family trip to Clemson University, home of the NCAA ACC Clemson Tigers (Division 1 team). A staff member couldn't resist Holden's excitement while staring at the Football stadium and let our family go on to the field where we were able to take some photos. Holden was so excited he did a touch down dance in the end zone. -Al Bennetto
