Woodnewton as always is a great early season course with loads of opportunities to put the hammer down and test out the early season legs. For some of our Pedal Power Racers it was an amazing start to the season, for some others it was great motivation to up the training:)
Here is a Race Report from Sean who earned a 2nd place finish at Ontario Cup #1:
"Add a last minute decision to change to a more aggressive front tire and first race of the year jitters and I was really glad when the starting gun when off. I had a great start and ended up getting out front with 2 other riders. On the first climb one fellow missed a shift an fell off the pace. The fear of having the pack of 18 riders hunting us down kept me really motivated to push hard. We exchanged the lead several times during the first two laps. Near the half way point of the last lap the other fellow put the hammer down and I dropped off to regroup. Two other fellows passed me and I was now forth ugh.
2 minutes later the effects of the Gel and a small down hill kicked in and I was back. So I just pushed as hard as I could.
Caught the first guy 100m from the Rock Garden and passed him as he flatted right in front of me. Ok, now I had sites on the other fellow and pushed it to the limit going into the Rock Garden. He went to the right and my line was to the left and I nailed it at full speed and made the pass in the rocks. Now just to put a bit of distance between us in the last 200m to avoid a sprint with somebody I don't know!
Great first race of the year with a second place finish. Thank God I changed my tires."
